Student Sewa is operated by Urban Pulse Innovations Private Limited ("Student Sewa", "we", "us", "our"), a company incorporated in India (CIN: U56290DL2024PTC433574), with its registered office at G-10, Second Floor (Rear), South Extension Part 2, New Delhi 110049, India.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect through studentsewa.in and the Student Sewa app (together, the "Platform"), why we collect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 ("DPDP Act") and its Rules. It applies to students, teachers, alumni, institutions, businesses, government partners, and anyone else who uses the Platform.
Student Sewa is free for every student in India. We do not sell personal data, we do not charge students for anything on the Platform, and we never hold or touch scholarship money. This policy explains exactly what we do instead.
If you do not agree with this Policy, please do not use the Platform. If you are under 18, please read the section "If you are under 18" below — it applies to you specifically and describes how a parent or guardian is involved.
1. Who this Policy covers
This Policy covers everyone who interacts with the Platform, including:
- Students (school, Class 11 onward, undergraduate, postgraduate, and research students) using any of the six areas of the Platform: scholarships, wellbeing, jobs, housing, discounts, and campus services.
- Alumni using the batch directory, mentoring, or hiring features.
- Teachers who register to teach, hold paid sessions, or upload content.
- Institutions (colleges, schools, universities) that connect their enrolment records or broadcast notices through the Platform.
- Businesses that post offers, jobs, or run campus programmes.
- Government departments and ministries that use the Platform to reach verified students or receive aggregated, anonymised insights.
- Visitors who browse studentsewa.in without creating an account.
2. What personal data we collect
2.1 Information you give us directly
| Category | Examples | Who this applies to |
|---|---|---|
| Identity information | Name, date of birth, photograph, gender | All account holders |
| Contact information | Mobile number, email address, city | All account holders |
| Academic information | Institution, course, year of study, category (school/Class 11, UG, PG, alumni) | Students, alumni |
| Verification / KYC information | APAAR ID, DigiLocker-linked documents, college email address, uploaded student ID or enrolment letter | Students seeking Gold, Silver, or Bronze verification |
| Eligibility information | Family income bracket, social category (General/OBC/SC/ST/EWS, where a scheme requires it), state, gender, disability status where relevant to a scheme | Students using the Scholarships door |
| Financial information (limited) | Bank account or UPI details, for teachers being paid for sessions or notes sold on the Platform | Teachers only |
| Professional information | Resume, work history, skills, portfolio links | Students and alumni using Jobs |
| Institutional information | AISHE code, official domain, enrolment records (in aggregate, for verification) | Institutions |
| Business information | Company name, GST/registration details, offer terms | Businesses |
| Content you submit | Messages to Saarthi (our site guide), grievances, feedback, uploaded teaching videos or notes, batch directory profile details | All users, where applicable |
We collect family income and social category only where a specific scholarship or scheme requires it to determine eligibility. This information is never shown to businesses, employers, or institutions, and is never used for advertising. See Section 6.
2.2 Information collected automatically
- Device and log information: IP address, browser type, device identifiers, operating system, pages visited, and timestamps.
- Usage information: which doors you open (Scholarships, Wellbeing, Jobs, Housing, Discounts, Your Campus), search queries you type to Saarthi, and features you interact with.
- Approximate location: city or campus, used to match you to nearby housing, local scholarships, and city-specific offers. We do not collect precise GPS location unless a specific feature asks for it and you consent separately.
- Language preference: the language you select. Note that translation into Indian languages other than English is provided using Google Translate, a third-party service — see Section 7.
2.3 Information we receive from others
- From DigiLocker / APAAR (Government of India systems): verified academic identity, enrolment, and document data, only when you choose Gold-tier verification and explicitly authorise the connection.
- From your institution: enrolment confirmation, so that student accounts can be matched to the correct college for notices, hostel entry, and discounts.
- From scholarship-granting bodies: we do not receive your application status or outcome from government portals or private foundations unless they choose to share it with us; you apply and track status directly on the official portal.
We deliberately do not collect your marks, transcripts, or academic records beyond what is needed to match you to a scheme (course, year, category).
3. If you are under 18
Student Sewa is built to serve students from Class 11 onward, and Class 11 and Class 12 students are legally children under the DPDP Act (anyone under 18). School accounts are not open yet, and will not open until the parental consent mechanism described on our DPDP Compliance page is live. This section sets out how that will work, and applies to those students and to their parents or guardians.
- We treat anyone who tells us, or whom we have reason to believe, is under 18 as a child for the purposes of this Policy, regardless of what age is entered elsewhere.
- We do not process a child’s personal data without verifiable consent from a parent or lawful guardian, obtained before data collection begins, using TO SUPPLY: the parental consent mechanism, once chosen. A parent or guardian can withdraw this consent at any time by contacting us (Section 11), which will result in the child’s account and data being deleted.
- We do not track, behaviourally profile, or show targeted advertising to any user we know or believe to be a child. Anything a child sees on the Platform — including offers, courses, or content — is shown based on their stated course, year, and location, not on inferred behaviour.
- Certain protective and welfare-related processing (for example, matching a school student to a scholarship or a wellbeing helpline) may proceed on a more limited basis where the DPDP Rules permit it without full parental consent, but we still apply the no-tracking and no-targeted-advertising rules above without exception.
- If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has an account or has provided personal data without your consent, contact us immediately at privacy@studentsewa.in and we will investigate and delete the data where appropriate.
4. Why we process your data
We process personal data for the following purposes, relying on your consent, our legitimate use for the specified purpose, or a legal obligation, as applicable under the DPDP Act:
- To verify that you are a genuine student, teacher, or institution, so that scholarships, discounts, campus access, and other student-only benefits go only to real students.
- To match you to scholarships, loan-interest schemes, fellowships, and government benefits you are eligible for, based on your course, year, state, category, and income bracket where relevant.
- To connect you to wellbeing resources, including surfacing the national helpline, campus counsellor booking, and anti-ragging reporting — we do not provide counselling ourselves; see Section 9.
- To match you to jobs, internships, and paid teaching sessions.
- To show you verified housing options near your campus.
- To issue and validate single-use student discount codes with participating businesses.
- To deliver institutional notices (fee deadlines, circulars) to verified students of that institution.
- To operate the alumni batch directory, only for alumni who have opted in to being findable by their own batch.
- To respond to your questions, including messages to Saarthi and queries sent through our Contact page.
- To keep the Platform safe, including detecting fraudulent verification attempts, misuse of discount codes, or fake accounts.
- To comply with law, including responding to lawful requests from courts, regulators, or the Data Protection Board of India.
- To improve the Platform, using aggregated, de-identified usage data. We do not use your individual data to build an advertising profile of you.
5. Legal basis and consent
Wherever we rely on your consent, we will ask for it through a clear, itemised notice, in plain language, before we collect the relevant data — not bundled into a long, unrelated set of terms. You may withdraw consent at any time (Section 11), though this may mean we can no longer provide the specific feature that depended on it (for example, we cannot match you to scholarships without your course and category).
Where a specific use is necessary for a purpose you have already asked us to fulfil (for example, sending your verification request to your institution) or is required by law, we may proceed without asking for separate consent, as permitted under the DPDP Act’s provisions for "certain legitimate uses."
6. Who we share your data with
We share limited data, only as needed, with:
- Government systems and departments, to verify your identity (APAAR, DigiLocker) or, where you use our broadcast or grievance-routing features, to route your request to the correct department. We do not give any ministry your individual browsing behaviour — only aggregated, anonymised trends where we have a data-sharing arrangement, as described in our commitments to government.
- Your own institution, limited to what is needed to confirm your enrolment and deliver notices — we do not share your scholarship eligibility, category, or income data with your college.
- Businesses running student offers, limited to confirmation that you are a verified student matching the offer’s stated criteria (city, campus, course, year). We never share your name, contact details, category, income, or health or wellbeing data with any business. A business sees match counts and redemption counts, never individual student identities, unless you separately and explicitly apply to that business (for example, for a job).
- Service providers who process data on our behalf, under contract and only for the purpose we specify, including: cloud hosting providers, Google Translate (for on-page translation), a payment processor (for paying teachers), and analytics providers. These providers do not have the right to use your data for their own purposes.
- Other users, only where you choose it — for example, alumni who opt in to the batch directory are visible to others from their own batch; a job you apply for is shared with that specific employer.
- Law enforcement or regulators, where legally required.
- A successor entity, if Student Sewa is ever acquired or merged, in which case this Policy would continue to apply and you would be notified.
7. Cookies, analytics, and third-party tools
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your language preference, and understand how the Platform is used in aggregate. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
Translation: when you select a language other than English, the page is translated in your browser using Google Translate. This means the text of the page is sent to Google for translation. We do not control Google’s processing of that request; you can review Google’s Privacy Policy separately. We recommend not selecting translation for a page where you are entering especially sensitive information, if you would prefer that text not pass through a third-party translation service.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Turning some off may affect how the Platform works for you.
8. Data storage, security, and retention
We store personal data on servers located TO SUPPLY: where data is stored, and any cross-border arrangement, protected by encryption in transit and at rest, access controls limiting data to staff who need it for their role, and monitoring for suspicious activity.
We retain personal data only for as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected for, or until you withdraw consent or delete your account, whichever is earlier — except where we are required to retain it for longer to meet a legal obligation (for example, financial records related to teacher payments, which we retain as required under applicable tax and company law).
When data is no longer needed, we securely delete or irreversibly anonymise it.
9. Important limits on what we are
- We are not a scholarship-granting body. We help you discover schemes you may be eligible for; the decision to award, verify, and pay a scholarship always rests with the government department, ministry, or private foundation running that scheme. We never touch, hold, or disburse scholarship money.
- We are not a healthcare or crisis service. The Wellbeing door surfaces the national helpline (Tele-MANAS, 14416), campus counsellor booking, and anti-ragging reporting — all operated by government bodies or your institution, not by us. If you are in an emergency, please call 112 or the relevant number directly.
- We are not a lender, bank, or insurer. Loan-interest subsidy schemes and insurance products described on the Platform are run by the government bodies, banks, or insurers named — we never arrange, broker, or take any commission on a loan or policy.
- We are not a landlord or letting agent. Housing listings reflect properties our team has visited and safety-checked; the tenancy relationship is directly between you and the property owner.
10. Your rights as a Data Principal
Under the DPDP Act, you have the right to:
- Access a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how it has been processed.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
- Erase personal data that is no longer necessary for the purpose it was collected for, or to withdraw consent and have associated data deleted.
- Withdraw consent at any time, as easily as you gave it.
- Nominate another individual to exercise these rights on your behalf in the event of your death or incapacity.
- Grievance redressal — see Section 11 — and, if unresolved, to approach the Data Protection Board of India.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below. We will respond within the timeline prescribed under the DPDP Rules. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, to make sure we are not disclosing or deleting the wrong person’s data.
11. Grievance redressal
If you have a concern about how your personal data has been handled, contact our Grievance Officer:
- Name: Tanuj Varshney
- Email: privacy@studentsewa.in
- Address: G-10, Second Floor (Rear), South Extension Part 2, New Delhi 110049, India
We will acknowledge your complaint and aim to resolve it within the timeline prescribed under the DPDP Rules. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may escalate the matter to the Data Protection Board of India through the process it publishes.
For anything unrelated to personal data — a general question, a suggestion, or a complaint about the Platform itself — please use our Contact page instead.
12. Third-party links
The Platform links to government portals (NSP, DigiLocker, CPGRAMS, UMANG, and others), scholarship and foundation websites, business offer pages, and educational content hosted elsewhere (for example, NPTEL and SWAYAM). Once you leave studentsewa.in or the app, that site’s own privacy policy applies — we are not responsible for their practices.
13. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy as the Platform changes or as the law requires. We will post the updated version here with a new "Last updated" date, and for material changes — especially anything affecting children’s data or how we share information — we will make a clear, prominent notice on the Platform rather than relying on a quiet date change.
